Essex Chanel NEWS

Are recording The Salt's second album. The album’s master tracks have been recorded at Engine Studios in Wicker Park, under the engineering direction of Mike Regan (also from Fetla of course). We’ll finish up recording at “The Barn” in Valparaiso, a great studio space that’s recorded some great bands. We'll complete the CD sometime in April/May and play a bunch of shows this summer.

Fetla
Fetla released it's second full length album! Called Sweet Disaster, this album is indeed, sweet. Fetla had a release show at Double Door on 12.10.2008 to celebrate (The Summer Salts played too). Good times. A video was shot of the show. Maybe you'll see it someday.

The Holiday Season is Here! The Summer Salts will be playing Dec 10th at Double Door. We've been working on a lot of new music recently, which explains our lack of shows. This show will be our last until we start recording our new CD in January with Mike Regan. Hopefully we'll see you there! This show will also be the CD release of Travis's other band Fetla's CD Sweet Disaster.

In case you haven't heard, Fetla is back! We've got a new album called Sweet Disaster and you get a physical copy before it comes out, or get it online. This album is great and you're sure to enjoy. Fetla went on a little mini-tour to Michigan in September and there's gonna be some videos eventually - but here are some from our show in Ypsilanti.

July 30th, Essex Chanel will be playing it's next show. Essex Chanel is offering a FREE sampler CD for the first 100 people in the door. The sampler CD will contain a variety of songs from Essex Chanel’s 7 albums and other projects, as well as some previously unreleased material.

Essex Chanel will be expanding the live full-band set list at this show.  They’ll perform many Essex Chanel classic songs, tracks from the upcoming album “Love is Proximity,” as well as doing a full rendition of the self-released LP, “Dancing at Weddings.”

Whoa! It's been a while since I've put that Fetla logo anywhere. The rumors are true: Stephen, Mike and I are working on a new Fetla album, loosely titled Sweet Disaster. It's kind of a radical departure of the old Fetla sound, being that we recorded So Patriotic about 2.5 years ago, before Stephen went to Japan for 2 years. A lot has happened since then! This album is really turning out great.

7.14.2007Travis is working on a new Essex Chanel CD, loosely titled Dancing at Weddings. This album is quite a departure from some of the Essex Chanel sound, and was quite a surprise from the get-go. It's really fresh and we'll see where it takes us. He's still working on Love is Proximity, but when you have many musicians involved, maybe it isn't the best idea to start a CD with 38 songs!

3 new songs released!

The album is dead as we know it. The album itself was a response to the medium it was distributed on. The Album is Dead is how albums will be in the future, released as Music Collections. Releases as they are complete (sometimes minutes after the final mix is approved), not a marketing campaign with a date 5 months in the future. All songs released online, for free. Download the songs, and put the songs in order as you wish. Include the ones you love. New tracks all the time, so check back often.

5.28.2007 Thanks to Everyone who came out to the Essex Chanel Show at the Note!! I performed some of my favorite songs with just me and my guitar. Some of them were old classics and some I haven't really got around to recording yet, so hardly anyone has heard them. It was a cozy night, and I even broke out the harmonica for a couple tunes. It was a good chance to hear some of these songs played without all the production. I'm hoping to record them more like this eventually. The set list of the show was as follows:

I handed out free CDs at the show if you made it. It was the beginning tracks to a new Essex Chanel project that's called The Album is Dead. For this project, I will release songs when they get completed, not to go on an album. The album, for most people, is dead anyways. I say this and realize I'm doing this project and writing and recording albums as well. Isn't contradiction great?!

4.18.2007Travis is working on a new album called Love is Proximity This one is going to be a little bit different than most Essex Chanel releases, in part because he's not playing the majority of the instruments on the album. Travis is doing a lot of arranging, and working with some friends who play: violin, cello, drums, lapsteel, pedal steel, and some female singers. He'll probably release an album or 2 before this one comes out, so stay tuned.
